My favorite word is "adventure" and I'm working on my next one.  This time I'm planning my move from Hawaii to Madeira, a Portuguese island off the coast of northern Africa.  I completed my San Francisco meeting with VSF in April and now am waiting on my D7 retirement visa.  Assuming all goes well, I'll be off to my Machico home in August 2026.

I hope to share my engineering work experiences with students at Universidade da Madeira or a similar educational facility.  I have 35 years of aerospace mechanical design experience to share.

As my resume shows, I spent over 15 years selling real estate after retiring from 35 years in engineering.  The reason for leaving engineering was so that I could realize my dream of living in Hawaii.  The reason for returning to work in a totally new field was equally simple; I had moved 5,000 miles from my East Coast home to a new location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (Hawaii) where I only knew 1 person, the real estate agent who had sold me my Hawaii properties.  It only took a week to realize I needed a way to meet people in my new location if I didn't want to live the life of a hermit.  Of the 3 ideas I had, I chose going back to work in a totally new field, real estate sales.  I was successful both in both the business and the social aspects provided by what became a lengthy second career.  It was a good decision for me.
